Bath Shower diverter valve not working properly?

by Mike
(Fairfield, OH)

The following diverter valve was installed by a general contractor remodeling our bathroom:

We purchased a tub/shower combo faucet with the diverter in the handle for our walk-in shower so we could have a separate hand held shower in addition to the conventional 6.5 ft high shower head. The intent was that the water would divert to the hand-held in place of the tub spout not being used.

Upon completion of the tile installed almost simultaneously with the faucets we have discovered that the overhead shower works fine, but when we turn the diverter to use the hand-held the water comes out of both shower heads.

Why is this??

While not being 100% sure of what type of diverter valve was installed in your shower, if it was a true multi-port diverter valve, you should have the option of having either of the shower heads supplied, or both....

Please make sure that you are controlling the diverter valve properly through all of its settings, before you contact the contractor again... but then contact your bathroom remodel contractor to verify that you are using the diverter properly.

Good Luck -
