Types of Bathroom Sink Faucets

Bathroom sink faucets come in a number of finishes. From the total number of choices available, it is hard to point which one is better than the others. Each has its own advantage, and, indeed, shortcomings.

The following are some of the most common types of bathroom sink faucets, along with their pros and cons.

  • Stainless Steel finish is the most popular, not only because it has been around for quite a long time now but also because it is quite cheaper than the other options. Stainless steel bathroom sink faucets are designed to be sturdy, intended for very long period of time of use. The advantage of this type is that it is sure not to corrode, nor tarnish as the name suggests. Also, this finish can blend well with most bathroom décor. Its solid material makes it long lasting. It can be scratched. Also, over time the finish becomes dull. This finish also shows fingerprints.

  • Chrome faucets are made by electroplating over solid brass fixture the chrome finish. The color is similar to stainless steel that they are both in silver, which makes it quite easy to mix with a lot of vanity décor. The difference is that chrome is shinier. These are also “easy on the pocket”. Chrome bathroom faucets don’t corrode or even scratch. They are tarnish resistant. These require regular cleaning in order to retain their shine. The chrome finish will also fade over time. Also, these show water spots, which means aside from regular cleaning, drying them is also needed to prevent water spots.

  • Brass faucets have been around for a long time now, but are not as common as chrome or stainless steel faucets. Unlike stainless steel and chrome, brass faucets are made of single metal. These do not include metal blends or plating. These are a bit more expensive when compared to stainless steel and chrome faucets. As for styles or designs, there are also fewer choices. These are durable. Made of solid material, these are sure to last long. Brass replicates gold, giving a distinct look to bathrooms. These need attention and care. If not sealed properly, it can easily rust. Cleaning solutions should be carefully chosen or it will damage the beautiful color of its finish. If not properly taken care of, it can tarnish and scratch easily. Fingerprints also show.

  • Brushed Nickel finished faucets are one of the newest types. These are electroplated; the nickel plating is done over solid brass. This type includes a lot of styles, and the huge variety of styles and designs also includes varying prices. These are of high quality as these do not show fingerprints or water spots. They do not tarnish or get scratched easily. The quality may also vary. The popularity of this type makes it more costly than the other options. The plating can also wear off over time.
