Bathroom Tile Removal or Remodel

My bathroom has blue and red ceramic tiles from floor to ceiling and is quite outdated. How can I update the look without spending a fortune?

Thank you for submitting a Bathroom Tile How To question...

Older homes used the floor to ceiling tile - we have seen it often.... one bathroom in our home has pale pink tile floor to ceiling - we are planning a bathroom remodel, and will post the complete case study on this site.... be on the look out for it....

But - there are several options for remodeling this type of bathroom -

1 - You could remove the tile yourself, repair the walls where the tile removal cut into the surface, and then paint, or wallpaper the room. This would be time consuming, but it is do-able.

2 - There are wall boards that can be purchased in a home remodel warehouse such as Home Depot or Lowes that can be placed directly over the bathroom tile.... these wall boards are designed to resist moisture....

Good luck on your bathroom remodel...

If you place board (beadboard) over existing tile, you will have quite a lip to deal with. You'll have a ledge all the way around. I think it's best to take the tile off.
