Bathtub Refinishing - Do you need a Professional?

If you ever get that yucky feeling whenever you step into your bathroom, then maybe it is time to remodel - especially the bathtub. Bathtub refinishing may take a long time, but once you’re done with it, trust me, all your hard work will be worth it.

What is involved in Bathroom Refinishing?

One important thing to remember when doing bathtub refinishing is that your bathtub does not have to be removed and then taken to a shop. Refinishing is merely done on the site. Most refinishing technicians know that they are in the confines of a private residence so they are very careful when it comes to spraying and making a mess.

It helps to know what is involved in the refinishing process before you completely leave the work to professionals. It’s true that you don’t have to do the work yourself but it doesn’t mean that you will leave everything to them. As the owner of the bathroom, it is your right to monitor what is going on in there. You have to guide them in the process. At least when you do this, you show them that you know what they should be doing.

Basically, in refinishing a bathtub, after masking and drop clothes have been set up, the tub is repaired. The repairing of the tub is done by filling the nicks and the holes. Then it is sealed and painted with a durable and glossy top-coat. Any color you prefer is possible. It is all up to you.

Most people are surprised that the material for refinishing the tub is just paint. To make it more accurate, refinishing technicians call it a coating. However way you call it, get rid of the idea that the refinishing is merely a duplication of the original coat of your bath tub. In some cases, you can get a valuable cast of your tub and then have it coated with the paint, rather coating, that you prefer.

Finally, after letting the whole painting dry, add an additional coating for final buffing. Once you do this, your tub will be ready within 48 hours. The new coat, thanks to the tub refinishing, is more durable than the original coating. Now that you have a new bathtub to use, be mindful of the products you use in order to clean it. Get products that aren’t abrasive. This will make the longevity of your newly renovated bathtub longer.

Professional Help or Not?

Most people think of tub refinishing as a project that needs professional assistance. It’s not a type of painting that most people can themselves. Some people will say it is impossible and there’s truth to that because there are some things you can do on your own. It’s best that you get professionals when you are remodeling and concentrating on bathtub refinishing.
