Find out how an elevated toilet seat can help you outfit the proper handicap bathroom....
Arthritis, permanent injuries, back pains, surgery effects, old age. Many things can hinder people from moving accordingly, even for everyday routines. Toilet dilemmas are some of these things. But thanks to the creation of the ever helpful elevated toilet seat, mobility problems are no longer such a bother. Know the kinds that exist and figure out which one suits your needs.
1. Simple/Basic – This elevated seat remains very basic by simply adding height to the toilet seat (about four to six inches). There are some which are padded on the seat, while others are hard but contoured. Excellently made ones hold as much as 600 pounds, but the few others are not strong and sturdy enough, so do choose wisely. In installing, some are designed so that it could perfectly fit inside the toilet, while there are also those that are screwed on the outside. These are most commonly used by those with minor back pains, or those recovering from surgery. Users of this elevated toilet seat require minimal to no assistance. This is not recommended for those with major orthopedic needs.
2. With Arms – A more stable type is almost the same with the simple/basic type but is added with armrests – both detachable and non-detachable. These “armed” seats have a wide price range depending on its material. Some arms are made of steel, while others are simply made of plastic. Most are padded for comfort. This type of toilet seat also elevates to a good four to six inches and is commonly used by the elderly as well as the injured who need support in sitting and getting up. Means of installation is similar to that of the simple/basic seats.
3. Asymmetrical – This type is especially designed for those with extreme orthopedic requirements. It fits the traditionally shaped toilet seats and is structured with the right side lower than the left. This type of elevated seat caters to those recovering from hip or leg surgeries, fractures, and injuries.
4. Bedside – The bedside toilet seat, as its name implies, is positioned by the bed for easy access. Two types are available for this kind. One is simply a height addition to the bedside toilet, while another is a remote controlled one that can be raised to a certain height via remote control whenever desired. The bedside toilet seat caters to those who find it very hard to walk.
