Will you please explain how to install bathtub grab bars in a tiled tub shower stall.
Steve -
Thank you for submitting a Bathroom Shower How To question...
You can easily attach a bathtub grab bar on a tiled bathtub or shower wall. The ideal installation would be to install the ends of the grab bar into a stud, but the studs can be particularly hard to find through tile.... also, it is tough to install the grab bars horizontally across studs because of the length of the grab bar.
Installing a grab bar on tile is really no different than installing on drywall though - you just need to drill with a SHARP (NEW) masonry drill bit - you can use a bit of masking tape on the tile to get the hole started (this will keep the drill bit from slipping).
If you need to install the grab bar in a place that is not on a stud, the use of a really good quality toggle bolt is ok.
The Toggler is toggle bolt that uses a solid bar instead of a folding toggle and is held in place on the wall with a vinyl harness. A smaller hole is required for installation than most toggle bolts.
So, those are some options for the installation.
Good luck on your bathroom remodel!
