How do I remove old tile in my shower that has a leak and has caused mold, and replace tile, shower pan and sheetrock?

I have a leak I am assuming in my shower pan. Which has caused mold in the sheetrock and some of the tile to pull apart and the baseboards to rot.

So, I need to know the best way that I can remove the tile and replace the pan and sheetrock and put new tile.

Thank you for submitting a Bathroom Shower How To question...

To remove the shower pan, and a section of the tile above the shower floor, you will need to start at a mortar joint 3 - 6 inches above the dam height of the shower.

Cut all the way around the shower interior.

Remove the tile below the cut with a hammer and a pry bar.

For the remainder of the procedure, I will refer you to a prior question from our site.....

I will mention though, that there are several things that you need to keep in mind when you install the new shower pan.

1 - The shower floor needs to be pre-sloped under the shower pan (1/4 inch per foot).

2 - The shower pan material should extend 3 inches above the shower dam height.

3 - Add blocking behind the shower pan against the wall studs.

Good Luck on your bathroom remodel!
