How do you tile over bathroom countertop when sink cannot be removed?

I have an odd bathroom countertop at 68" wide. I was thinking I would tile to be cheaper. Only problem is the sink is part of the countertop. Is it still possible to tile?

Allison - You can still tile over your existing countertop, but there are things that you might want to consider..... first, I do not know what type of countertop / sink combination that you have.

If the sink edge is above the level of the countertop, you can be selective with your tile, and choose one that will not come above the level of the sink.

If the sink is built as a part of the countertop, and the top if the sink is level to the countertop, then you will have to work the grout of the tile to smooth into the sink opening (this might make your job quite a bit harder... but it can be done.

Without removing the sink, will make your tile cutting a little more challenging.... be sure you have the right tools and / or knowledge....

If you are ready to lay the tile though, just sand the countertop, lay your thinset, and lay the tile...
