How to build a Shower

In learning how to build a shower, there are several things that must be done. The things that you have to perform first are to frame and rough-in the custom shower. Rough-in is a construction or plumbing term that to set up the part that is behind the walls or that part that is not seen by anybody. In the case of a custom shower, rough in means to connect to the pipes, set-up the custom shower and test the custom shower for leaks or malfunctions.

The first thing that has to be considered before performing the task of how to build a shower is to determine whether you already have a bathroom where you just want to change the shower or you are starting from scratch, which means that you do not have a bathroom built yet. If you already have a bathroom that is built and you just want to replace the shower with a custom shower, the bathroom must first be gutted. This means that the fixtures and shower stall have to be removed. If you are starting from scratch and you do not have any bathroom yet, you can skip this first step.

The next step that you have to do is to shut off the main water system of your house and make sure that the pipes are empty. This step is necessary in order to prevent wastage of water and at the same time prevent the flow of water from interfering with your work. Once the main water system is shut off and the pipes are already empty, you can already connect the shower valve to the piping system. The shower valve is the tool that redirects water from the hand wand accessory to the showerhead. The ports of the valves shell must be burnished with a wire brush. This is necessary in order to ensure tighter seal once it is installed.

Certain pipes have to be changed in order to ensure maximum benefits from the newly installed custom shower. The pipes have to be installed to connect the hot and cold lines to the piping of the custom shower. Make use of the self-soldering copper unions to ensure durability. In installing the main pipe system of the shower, you can either choose to create a

pipe layout, after taking some measurements, before installing and connecting the pipe system of the shower or you can immediately install it. The former option is recommended for those who do not have extensive experience in this area. After placing the main pipe system of the shower in the place that you desire, you can already seal the connections by soldering the joints.

To complete the task, you may solder on copper caps to close the connections until the custom shower has been installed or you can already immediately connect the custom shower, if already available.

These are the steps that you have to perform in order to frame and rough-in a custom shower successfully.
