Remodeling your bathroom is easy although it requires time, effort, and patience. You can actually remodel your bathroom on your own. It is a common misconception that in remodeling your bathroom, an expert or professional is required.

remove a bathtubThe primordial matter that you have to take into consideration is to determine how your bathtub was installed. You need to know if your bathtub was inserted between the walls or if the bathtub is separate from the wall. If your bathtub is inserted between the walls, you need to detach or remove first the piping that connects the bathtub to the general piping of the house behind the wall. After detaching or removing the piping, you need to carefully pull out the bathtub from the wall. On the other hand, if your bathtub is separate from the wall, you just simply detach or remove the piping to enable you to move out the bathtub. You also need to determine whether the surrounding walls of your bathtub support the structure of your house. If it does support the structure of your house, make sure that there is adequate support for the walls before removing the bathtub. It is important to remember that if you are not sure how your bathtub was installed, it is best and advisable to go and seek professional help.

After determining the manner of how your bathtub was installed, you need to first turn off the water supply in your house. After turning off the water supply, you need access to the piping; thus, you need to open the plumbing wall of your bathtub. Usually, there are panels that can be easily opened in order for you to access the plumbing wall of the bathtub.

When you are already able to gain access to the piping, you need to use a large wrench or pliers in order to remove the nuts that connect the overflow pipe and the bathtub pipe. The overflow pipe is the pipe that brings water to the bathtub through the bathtub pipe.

Make sure that all the nuts that connect the bathtub to the wall or other pipes are totally loosened. After doing this, you must eliminate wall coverings such as tiles. You can do this by using a hammer and chisel. Make sure that you are wearing safety goggles while removing the wall coverings.

After removing the wall coverings, it is already time to remove a bathtub. You need to re-check first whether it has been totally detached from all its connections. You also need to check whether the bathtub pipes are completely severed from the overflow pipe or from the drainage system. When lifting the bathtub out, make sure that you can lift it alone. If not, it is best and advisable to call for help from another person so as to avoid any injury to yourself or to your property within the bathroom.
