remove tub & replace with shower

What is the best way to do this project, replace the tub with a fiberglass shower or redo every thing with a tile shower?

I would like to make kind of like a spa for my wife as the tub is of no use account of her double knee replacement - she has a hard time getting her legs bent far enough to step over edge of the tub to use the shower, and always hits her foot on the edge of the tub. I am afraid that she is going to trip and fall.

The current tub is a 5ft whirlpool tub. I would like to replace it with a 5ft wide shower with body jets or something along that line.

tks

Of course, the first step on your bathroom remodel project is to remove the existing bathtub.

After that, it is just my opinion, but I love a tiled shower. If you choose to go with a tiled shower, you can add as many shower body jets as you wish before finishing and tiling the shower.

There are a multitude of bathtub replacement shower receptors available that you simply install on the existing drain that your bathtub occupied..... For instance, this receptor will fit an area that the tub was fitted into, and also supply a seat.....

Kohler - K-9486-47 - Memoirs Shower Receptor With Integral Seat at Right and Left Hand Drain

This shower is just your normal flat shower floor.... and comes in either left or right hand drain....

Kohler - K-1786-L-0 - Fountainhead Shower Receptor With Left Hand Drain

Once a shower receptor is placed, plumbing is run for the jet, or shower head, and the tile is placed.

For a selection of body jets that you can place in this tiled shower, you can check out our favorite bathroom faucet distributor eFaucets.

One other alternative for you is to add this type of slimline shower massage system.... It would not require the additional plumbing that the single jets would require.....

Mitrani Slim ZEX Shower Massage System, 3 Body Jets

Good luck on your very noble bathroom remodel project....
