Replace Bathroom Grout

How do I replace bathroom grout?

Thank you for submitting a question to our Bathroom Remodel How-To page...

Common steps for removing and replacing bathroom grout:

Step #1. Remove the old bathroom grout. To do this, you can use a removal tool (preferably one that has a carbide blade) for small areas and a rotary tool for large areas. The bit must be just the right size and depth to fit the space in-between the tiles. It is important that you work slowly and target the center so as not to hit the tiles.

Step #2. Mix the new grout. Different types of tile need different types of grout. Make sure to read labels to have the perfect match. For instance, marble tiles need non-sanded grout to keep its texture smooth and shiny.

Step #3. Put on the new grout. To do this, you must have a margin float. For clean-up, wiping with a sponge will suffice.
