Safe to leave a toilet removed during bathroom remodel

How long is it safe to leave a toilet off while remodeling a bathroom, and is there anything you need to do to keep gases from backing up?

Our Answer
It is safe to leave a toilet removed during bathroom remodel. You will probably want to place a rag into the sewer line to keep the gases from coming into the bathroom. There will still be an odor in the room, but as long as you can stand it, there will be no problem.

Additional Tips

Don't lose the Rag

Make sure the rag does not fall into the sewer. You will have a lot of trouble retrieving it if it does.

Replace the wax seal

When installing the new toilet, be sure to replace the wax seal around the sewer line. See our instructions for installing a toilet for more information.

We hope your bathroom remodel goes great!
