Shower floor problem after remodel

I had my shower remodeled in April. After about three to four weeks i noticed that some the grout, when in use, would get soft and float away. The contractor came back and re-grouted. Three weeks later in happened again only this time i noticed that when i stepped on some tiles(2" by 2")white past would come up between the tiles. A different tile store wants to tear up the floor all the way to the frame and start over.

In this case, I think that I would let someone else come in and completely re-do the bathroom shower floor.

It sounds like the adhesive used on the tiles was either the wrong type, or did not set properly, or had something wrong with it.

You will be happier in the long run to have it done properly.... you should use thinset to adhere the tiles to the floor, and the allow if to dry and set thoroughly. Then grout with an epoxy grout - and allow it to set and cure properly. As a final step you might want to consider sealing the grout to keep water form entering the grout lines.

Good luck on your shower remodel....

they used mastik
by: a helpful guy

the reason that your tiles came up(and the explination of of the white paste) is because they used mastik (wall tile glue, which is not impact resistant) instead of thin-set mortar. then they compounded the problem by grouting before the mastik was dry. you can check out properly done bathrooms at www.budgetbathusa.com. and check out what they have. or check them out on youtube, they offer lots of hints and tips on their videos

Finding the best Contractor
by: Bathroom Contractor

I had a similar problem. Went with econtractorbids.com and let a professional come in to make it like new again. I'm happy now!
