Shower Floor Slope

(Tampa)

Is it necessary to slope my shower floor? I have a concrete foundation. The stepdown into my shower is 3". My tile installer is telling me that I need to add a board to build up the height because the buildup will be two inches at the edges and I have to also allow for the tile. What are your thoughts?

Thank you for submitting a Bathroom Shower How To question...

Well..... for a shower to properly drain, and not pool water, the shower floor should be sloped at 1/4 inch per foot towards the drain.

Since you did not mention the size of your shower floor, I cannot answer whether or not the 2 inches is correct...

Good luck on your bathroom remodel!

Before preparing to lay the tile, the floor should be shaped under the shower pan to form the slope needed.
