tiling around a window in shower

by Kim Hilliker
(Taylor Michigan)

is it better to use a small window ledge? Do all your edges need to be straight? Our drywaller did not leave very straight edges they are uneven all around the window opening. Should the inside of the window be lined with dura rock also? There are even small gaps in the corner of the shower. I'm afraid that the sealer will be eaten up there... Thanks for any help that you can offer!

If you are in the process of remodeling your bathroom, then a concern you have is how to properly put the tile around window in shower. The natural lighting that is provided by the window around the shower can actually help you save money on your electric bill and that is why you have it there in the first place. Just because you’re remodeling doesn’t mean you’ll remove this. You just have to work your way around it then.

In order for you to put tile around window in shower in a proper and effective manner, you have to first measure the area that is below the window. You should also measure the length of the bathtub and the space where it is positioned. This will result to the calculation of the size of the bathtub you will buy, that is if you are also remodeling your bathtub area. Now, measure distance from the window then up to the wall. Add the bathtub’s width and multiply it by two. The number you get will determine how many 4-inch ceramic tiles you have to get. These are what you will use when you put tile around window in shower in your soon to be remodeled.

Work your way around the shower by installing a wall at the end of the bathtub. This is where you should put your showerhead. Build the wall using the same dimensions as where your new bathtub should be. After the plumber has installed the plumbing of your showerhead, that is when you can add cabinets or shelves between the existing wall and your new wall for your towels and toiletries.

You can also ask the plumber to install the water pipes and the drains before you put the bathtub. This will also make the job of installing the tile around window in shower easier. Just cross your fingers that this move will entail mess time as well as less money out of your wallet.

When this is done, you can now install tile around window in shower. You start below the window and then work up to the bathtub’s edge. Both ends of the walls must use ceramic tile adhesive. You can put some spacers between the tiles where you want the grout to go. Place the ceramic shelves where you want them to be. Do not settle for just tiles. You can use ceramic tile scribers and tile cutters in order to make the job faster and to chop down the tiles for a perfect and proper fit. Just remember to put holes in the tiles where you would put the handles and the faucets. After you’re done with procedure, you have to wait for one whole day for everything to dry before you do the next step.

The next step is to remove the spacers. Now that you have applied the grout in each ceramic tile using a grout float, you can force it down and into the joints. Just use a damp sponge so you could remove the excess grout. Wait for 10 days before you can apply the grout sealer.
