Updating a medicine cabinet

Our home was built in the late 70's so our main bathroom is in need of updating. We have a large mirror over the sink and vanity. Under the mirror is a long rectangular medicine cabinet (the chrome ones that have a mirror front and the doors slide back and forth). I am looking for ideas to modernize the mirror and cabinet without replacing them.

One thing that you might do is to add some bathroom lighting around the mirror and the bathroom medicine cabinet.
