Waterproofing after concrete backer board

What is the next step after concrete backer board is installed?

The most important thing to bear in mind after installing your concrete or cement backer board will be to verify that the backer board does not come into contact with your shower pan, or the side of the bathtub - depending on which you are preparing to tile.

If the backer board comes into contact with this area, you run the risk of water pooling, and then eventually wicking into the backer board. You may want to apply a thin layer of silicone caulk between the tub / shower and the backer board to be completely sure.

Hopefully you installed the cement backer board with special backer board corrosion-resistant screws made specifically for backer boards.... this will ensure a complete water tight seal.

These steps all done properly will ensure the watertightness of the construction - you are ready to tile the bathroom.
