I'm re-doing my small master bath shower stall (~3 x 3 feet) and would like input on the best material. The reason we're replacing our tile shower stall (with 4x4 tiles)is b/c of continuous mold build-up on the grout--I've tried all products and even re-sealing. Everyone says the mold is due to the old type of grout used (home built in 1979). If I re-do with larger tiles, will I end up with the same pain w/cleaning (constant hard
scrubbing for ~1 hour), or is the grout that is made today different/more resistant?
Should I go with a do-it-yourself fiberglass/acrylic unit? Or something like Marble-lite? My husband and I are not too handy, so we'll probably hire someone. I want easy cleaning and durability and would appreciate any suggestions regarding pros and cons of products/materials available.
Sick of mold on grout and hard, time consuming scrubbing!
Thanks, Karen
Karen - Excellent question -
Tile is still one of the best bathroom shower materials around. There is mold/mildew resistant grout available, and that is what you should choose. Be aware though, that the mold and mildew may be coming from behind the shower. Since you are removing everything, you should be able to get it all cleaned up from behind the shower.
Any other tips and hints out there?
