Which job comes first in our bathroom remodel?

by Dave
(Shawnee, KS)

We want to know in what order jobs should be done. The following are the things we are doing:

refinish vanity
remove old vanity top and install new onyx vanity top and fixtures
remove old vinyl floor (down to plywood) and install new vinyl floor
Remove old wallpaper and put up new wallpaper

A row of ceramic tile and bullnose trim on walls where wall meets floor will stay in place through floor and wallpaper changes.

Does floor or wallpaper come first? Does refinishing vanity come after old top removed, before new top installed, before floor and walls?

Thanks!

There is really no right or wrong thing to do first in your list, but I have a few suggestions....

I would remove the old floor and the old wall paper first of all.... next remove the old vanity top... then I would refinish the vanity. It will not matter if you spill some of the stain if the floors are bare.

You might want to go ahead and put up the new wall paper at this point just in case the paper needs to go behind the vanity top.

After the refinishing, go ahead and install the new vanity top and fixtures.

Then you are ready to put in the new flooring.

Sound like it will be beautiful.... we would love to see photos.... please upload copies of your Bathroom Remodel Photos.
